The sport offering will increase from the beginning of the second semester of 2017. Our current offering includes the following:
Cricket continues to grow at St George’s College. The first side competes in the local schools league. Practices take place twice a week at our upgraded fields (including 3 nets) and the league matches consist of home and away fixtures. Our players also get invited to the EP Winter School which is the stepping block to provincial representation.
Our learners make use of the Athletics Oval to train twice a week and are entered into various distance running events on Saturday mornings. A professional coach from NMMU Athletics Club attends a session once a week and provides our athletes with professional expertise. We are also focused on the slower, non competitive athlete. We are doing the Hobie Beach parkrun every Saturday moring at 8.
Squash training takes place at the new Crusaders Sports Club and we are entered into the local schools league.
Under the guidance and expertise of a professional coach, tennis is a sport which we offer throughout the year. We enter both boys and girls teams into the local schools league with huge success. Training takes place at the P.E. Lawn Tennis Club which is situated across the road from the College and league matches are scheduled at home and away.
During the summer months we offer swimming to our learners at the St George’s Schools Aquatic Centre and also arrange advanced lessons for those who are more serious about the sport. Swimming galas take place on Club level with exception to our ever successful and very popular Inter- House gala.
This year we have re-introduced water polo for boys and girls. It takes place at the St George’s Public pool. Training is done in summer and on Wednesday afternoons. we also have some students involved in Winter Club level water polo. The Students train and forms part of the Madibas scuad (NMMU)
This is our most popular sport at the school and the results support this statement. We have a First side soccer team who enter into the local schools league and excel against the bigger schools. Under the guidance of professional coaches soccer has taken off at the school and every year we discover new talent. The boy’s are invited to tournaments all over the country and showcase their skills at many Derby day fixtures.
Hockey is an extremely popular sport. The boys and girls are entered into the local schools league against various schools. The First side will travel to George to attend the annual Oakhill Tournament over the long weekend in May.
Pilates is a new addition to the College and is proving very popular. The students attend it twice a week and they are instructed by an SA Irish dancer and Pilates instructor.

NETBALL AND ACTION NETBALL
Netball is a well sported sport. The numbers attending training sessions has increased to such an extent that it has given us the opportunity to enter a second team in the schools league. Training takes place under the guidance of a Club Coach twice a week.
HOCKEY AND INDOOR HOCKEY
Hockey is an extremely popular sport. The girls are entered into the local schools league against various schools. The First side will travel to East London to play in the Merrifield Derby.
