What st georges former pupils say

Stephanie Theodosiou (First Headgirl & Matric 2005)

After St George’s College I went to do a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Media Culture and Communications at NMMU. I attained my degree in 2008 majoring in English and Public Relations. I then went on to my honours (2009) and now I am about to finish my Masters in applied Media (2010).

The College provided me with a solid foundation to further my education and I have the small classes and personal attention of the College’s staff to thank, as they were always encouraging and provided us (the students) with the platform not only to grow as a class unit but as individuals.

Being a founder member was a great experience, as I was able to witness the College grow in numbers and I was part of the ‘big move’ to the building where the College is currently situated. The College was an experience like no other, as many pleasant memories were made, lasting friendships were formed and as school we continued the tradition of St George’s Prep and maintained the ‘family like’ environment.

I consider myself truly blessed to have been a part of the College for my high-school career, as it installed the much needed tools I would come to use in University. I look forward to celebrating St George’s College 10 Year Birthday, as it is a milestone that deserves to be celebrated by all thos students that have passed through the College’s doors.”

Peter Ngqibs Ncanywa (Matric 2006)

“My name is Peter Ncanywa and I am an old boy of St George’s College. I matriculated in 2006. I was a prefect, musical/choir Leader, and House Captain of McWilliams. I often accompanied the school and other shows that the students did.

I have not been able to visit the school because I am currently studying at Montclair University in New Jersey, USA. I am doing 2 majors (both in music): Organ performance and Voice-Music therapy as well as two minors: Psychology and Business.

I also work at an organization called Infinite Family (www.infinitefamily.org) and serve in their Junior Board Committee. I have started an annual benefit concert to help spread their work through entertainment.

The best thing about St George’s College is the intimacy between teachers and pupils, between classmates and between friends. The relationships I formed while there are still going strong. Many lessons on leadership I learned in my time there, and these have given me an advantage in many pursuits here in the US. I miss my friends, teachers and the goofy times we had in our classrooms. Enjoy St George’s, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity!”

Donna Heat (Matric 2006)

"My name is Donna Heath and I matriculated from the College in 2006. In 2007 I studied for three years at Total Concept Academy and received my Honours in Spa Management.

I am currently living and working in the UK, it is my first year here and I am really enjoying it. I work at a health club called Exporta which is the UK’s leading premium health and leisure club operator.

The College was amazing, if I could go back and do it all again I would. Even though I was never really good at Afrikaans, I would love to be in that class again, Mrs Voges always knew how to make us laugh.

I am honoured to say that I studied at the College; the teachers are high class and friendly people that really cared for us and had our best interest at heart. I have made lifelong friends at the College and I have loads of special memories. I am where I am today because of the high standard that the College had set for the students and I thank you.”

Jenna Stickells (Matric 2006)

“I am studying a BSc in Microbiology and Biochemistry. Every school camp, class, teacher and sporting event made St George’s College special. We all learnt many things along the way, but the most important thing was that we were one big family that could count on each other for anything.

St George’s College gave us the best education that we could ask for. The teachers were positive and we had a very special relationship with them. St George’s College gave us a very good foundation for the future.”

Caylee O’Leary (Headgirl & Matric 2008)

“I have just completed my second year of medicine (MBBCh) at Wits in Johannesburg and I am going into 3rd year medicine (GEMP1) at the beginning of January 2011.

St George’s offered something unique: one-on-one education with fantastic teachers. They treat the learners as unique individuals and they strive to push their learners to become the best that they can be. Without St George’s I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

Thanks St George’s for offering me and opportunity to succeed in life!”

Loide De Almeida (Headgirl & Matric 2010)

“The fact that the College was a new school brought expected doubt, but I am so glad I stuck it out! The College wasn’t just a high school for me, it was a platform from which I was able to spread my wings and reach my goals whilst under the mentorship of the staff. I was able to achieve academic excellence through the constant encouragement of my peers and teachers.

I was afforded the opportunity to serve on the President’s Awards Youth Committee. I was chosen to represent St George’s on the Junior City Council and later became the Junior Mayor of the Council. But of the achievements, the greatest honour was being elected as Headgirl as I was given the opportunity to give back to a school that had given me so much.

I am currently a 1st year student at UCT. I am studying Business Science, Economics and Law. I was awarded a four-year non-obligation scholarship form Allan Gray Orbis Foundation and I am looking forward to the years ahead of me.”
