1. CODE OF CONDUCT

In order to create a caring and secure environment in which all pupils may develop, this Code of Conduct has been drawn up to provide a frame of reference for the behaviour of all St George’s pupils. It must be kept for easy reference at all times.

 

As a pupil of St George’s College I shall:

1. Know and follow all school rules

2. Show respect and be courteous towards:

§ Fellow pupils

§ Staff

§ Parents

§ Visitors to the school

§ Personal Property

§ Property of fellow pupils

§ School property and facilities

3. Act with dignity at all times at school and in public places.

4. Support and create a culture of learning by being punctual, participating and behaving well in class.

 

RULE OF ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

1. On the morning that the pupil is not at school a telephone call to the office informing of the pupil’s absence is requested.

2. If the pupil is away for more than three consecutive days then a medical certificate is required.

3. The pupil must arrange with teacher regarding any work that has been missed.

4. If a controlled term test is missed a medical certificate is required.

 

DISCIPLINE

The following are MAJOR OFFENCES:

1. Possession or consumption of alcohol.

2. Possession or use of any drugs, other than those prescribed by a medical practitioner or substance abuse of any kind.

3. Possession of any weapon.

4. Bullying in any form.

5. Theft

6. Possession or use of any smoking material.

7. Sexual impropriety.

8. Repeated defiance

9. Vandalism

10. Unacceptable use of the St George’s College network.

11. Racism

12. Possession of pornographic material.

13. Criminal offence outside the school

14. Any form of initiation.

 

The following are SERIOUS OFFENCES:

1. Cribbing.

2. Graffiti.

3. Leaving the school boundaries during school hours without permission.

4. Bunking any school activity or class.

5. Continual transgressions of classroom discipline, dress regulations, daily routines and academic work (not doing homework assignments).

6. Blasphemy.

7. Swearing.

8. Disrespect towards teachers and sport coaches and seniors (monitors).

9. Failure to arrive for sport matches, practices and cultural activities.

10. Plagiarism.

11. Unauthorized cell phone use.

12. Forgery.

13. Fighting.

14. Dishonesty.

15. Failure to report vandalism & theft.

For all of the above, the Headmaster and Governing Council, at their discretion, may decide to implement one or more of the following:

1. Saturday D.T.

2. Suspension of pupil.

3. Ask parents to remove child from St George’s College.

4. Expulsion.

 

The following are UNACCEPTABLE OFFENCES:

1. Wearing jewellery and make-up.

2. Late for school.

3. Late for class.

4. Shirt hanging out.

5. Homework not done.

6. Passing notes.

7. Wearing sports uniform as school uniform.

8. Chewing gum.

9. Causing class disruptions – excessive talking.

10. Eating in class.

11. Gel in hair.

12. Illegal entry of tuck shop.

13. Illegal entry of staff room.

14. Sleeping in class.

15. Leaving class without permission.

16. Running inside school building.

17. Littering.

 

 FOR REPEATED OFFENCES THE SCHOOL MAY ALSO DECIDE TO:-

1. Suspend pupil from sport and cultural activities.

2. Ask parents to keep pupil at home for a specified period.

3. Loss of privileges for seniors.

4. Saturday Headmaster’s D.T.

 

CELL PHONE POLICY

St George’s College recommends that NO cell phone should be brought to school.

In the event of a cell phone being brought to school the following shall apply:

· The school accepts NO responsibility whatsoever in the event of loss, theft or damage of the learner’s cell phone on the school’s premises.

· NO cell phone may be active or visible during school hours (7:40am to 14.00pm) including break times and between periods.

· NO cell phone may be used as a calculator or stopwatch.

· NO cell phone may be utilized during school hours to take photos, videos, send messages or use MXIT.

· NO explicit pictures, videos or messages may be viewed on the cell phone at school.

Transgression of any of the above will result in confiscation of the cell phone for the rest of the term. The Sim card may be removed.

Transgressions involving unacceptable pictures, videos and messages may result in a phone call to the parents and the learner’s cell phone being banned for the year. This will be at the discretion of the Headmaster and the educator concerned.

In the event of any sport/cultural/school fixture being cancelled, permission to utilize a cell phone shall be given by the class educator.
